Grandma Ghost is back!


A lot of big changes to Grandma Ghost have been made since originally submitting it to the jam. Thanks for all your feedback! Changes have been made based on suggestions from early play testing as well as new additions to the game. Originally a simple 3-stage proof-of-concept, the game has now been expanded to 11 rooms.

I am a big proponent of gameplay that teaches you to play organically without requiring a lengthy tutorial before diving into the fun. The early stages are designed to teach core concepts of the game in baby steps. For example, the first thing you do is go through a door—that's it! Each successive room introduces different elements as well as increasing the level of difficulty. 

The title screen has a new SNES inspired wobbly animated effect as well as a new theme composed by David Gonzales that lends a much darker tone to an unapologetically cute aesthetic. Speaking of music, the original 3 song score was generated by AIVA and 3 new piano solos have been added to the mix. Instead of starting a song over at the beginning of each stage, I whipped up an old-timey radio that can be used in-game to listen to the different songs. I may use this feature in other games going forward. 

These changes as well as other bug fixes are listed below.

Grandma Ghost v.08b changes:

  • Added bannister, railing sprites.
